Displacement is a vector brcause it needs both direction and magnitude to determine displacement.

For e.g 1.Hari's house is 10 km away from here.

In the first case we said that hari's home is 10 km away but we didnot said in which direction.  It is the distance and it is a scalar.

2. Hari's house is 10 km south- east from here

In the 2 nd case we mentioned direction (south- east ). So it is displacement and is a vector
