Well, it's some other kind of general momentum of dynamic variables like we had linear momentum in normal systems which could be well analysed in Two or three dimensional Euclidean or Cartesian space.

However, in some systems, analysis of particles becomes easy using polar coordinates as the chosen generalised coordinates and specifically in Hamiltonian systems and hence angular momentum was introduced.

However it's just something very similar to as an analogue of linear momentum as in rotational Dynamics or statics.
