What is meaning of imaginary or virtual numbers?

Imaginary numbers are used to help with numbers that involve taking the square root of a negative number.

imaginary no's r those which have negative sign in their root.we cannot find the value of such no's as they will be infinite.So they r called imaginary or virtual no's.
