redox means a reaction in which oxidation and reduction take place simultaneously. it can be like one species shows oxidation and the other shows reduction
Example
Fe2O3+ CO –––> 2Fe + CO2
Here Fe2O3 is getting reduced and CO is getting oxidised. Fe2O3 is the oxidising agent and CO is the reducing agent.
OR
it can also be like the same species is getting oxidised as well as reduced. this is called disproportionation reaction
Example
H2O2 ––>H2O + O2
H2O2 is getting oxidised and reduced as well.
