The waves that are propagated by simultaneous periodic variations of electric and magnetic field intensity and that include radio waves, infrared, visible light, ultraviolet, X-rays, and gamma rays are called electromagnetic waves.
Radio waves, light waves, thermal radiation etc. are the examples of electromagnetic waves.......

Electromagnetic waves are the waves that are formed due to the formation of vibrations between an electric and a magnetic field. Electromagnetic waves are actually formed when an electric field comes in contact with a magnetic field. They are synchronized oscillations of electric and magnetic fields. The oscillations of the two fields are perpendicular to each other and perpendicular to the direction of energy and wave propagation. Electromagnetic waves are emitted by electrically charged particles undergoing acceleration. EM waves carry energy, momentum and angular momentum  away from their source particle and can impart those quantities to matter with which they interact. Transmission of energy through a vacuum or using no medium is accomplished by electromagnetic waves. EM waves are used to transmit long/short/FM wavelength radio waves, and TV/telephone/wireless signals or energies. They are also responsible for transmiting energy in the form of microwaves, infrared radiation (IR), visible light (VIS), ultraviolet light (UV), X-rays, and gamma rays.
