Electricity can flow only in a complete circuit starting at one terminal and ending at the other terminal. The circuit contains a switch. The components are connected together by connecting wires.

a) OPEN SWITCH:-

  • It is an electric switch that does not allow electric current to flow.
  • In an Electric circuit, electrons flow from a negative terminal of the battery through the wire and the bulb and re-enter the battery through its positive terminal. If any of the terminals is disconnected from the battery, or from the bulb, the circuit is broken and the current stops flowing. The circuit is said to be open or is a opened switch.
  • Open switches are used in Start button and Light switch.

b) CLOSED SWITCH:-

  • It is an electric switch that allows electric current to flow.
  • In an Electric circuit, electrons flow from a negative terminal of the battery through the wire and the bulb and re-enter the battery through its positive terminal. When all the terminals are connected the circuit is said to be closed or is a closed switch.
  • Closed switches are used in Stop buttons and Emergency stop buttons.
