What is meant by a Bye? How is it drawn or decided in a Single Knock out System?

A bye is a type of rule or complication where due to many different circumstances a player is not allowed to participate in the game for a certain round.

In a single knock out tournament if there are an odd number of players a bye is given to the best performer(s) so that only the best performers can continue to the next round.
