Displacement reaction is chemical reaction in which the more reactive element displaces a less reactive element from its compound. Both non-metals and metals undergoes displacement reaction.
example: Here as X is more reactive it displaces less reactive Y from its compound
X + Y- Z --------> X-Z + Y
