1. Ingestion, Digestion, Absorption and Assimilation in Humans.
The human body is a unique mechanism!
How you may ask. Well, there are some interesting facts about them. For example, the nail on your middle finger actually grows faster than the other nails. Or that, if you are a girl, your heart would beat faster than a boy’s. And did you know, that we are all about a centimetre taller in the mornings than in the evenings?
Since this lesson is about nutrition, let us see what other interesting facts we can learn about other body parts involved in eating and digesting food. Some of the parts involved in the nutrition process are mouth, tongue, stomach, small intestine and long intestine.
Now let us see, did you know that the tongue is the strongest muscle in the body? If your stomach were to be fully removed you would still live, happily, with eating minute amounts of food. Or that, the acid in the stomach is capable of dissolving most metals? Imagine that. If you ever manage to stick your finger in stomach acid, it will be dissolved completely
Apart from the facts mentioned above, the parts involved in the nutrition process, perform a large number of function. They help crush food into a pulp, aid in digestion, absorb healthy nutrients and expel unwanted waste. Let us now learn about the functions of these parts in detail in the following lesson.
Nutrition in Human Beings
A nutrient is a component present in food that is used by living beings to perform bodily functions and survive. There are two different nutrients:
Answer:
Absorption is the absorbing of digested food in the small intestine
Assimilation is the process of reaction of digested food (glucose) with oxygen to form energy.
Egestion is the removal of undigested food from the body
