An ALLEGORY is an abstract idea when it is expressed through a person or a thing. The person represented in the Allegory is not a real person. An Allegory has two meanings : literary and symbolic.

1) Marianne, allegory of france , a popular christened name. It represents ideas of the liberty, freedom . Which underlined the ideas of a people' s nation. Her characteristics were drawn from those of Liberty , Republic- the red cap, the tri- colour and the cockade. To popularise the national symbols, statue of the Marianne were erected in public square.
