Alternative Education. The IEP Alternative Education is a series of programs aimed at providing an option to traditional school programs. Over the years, alternative schools have been assumed to be places where disruptive students can be warehoused “until they have learned their lesson”.

Education Guarantee Scheme (EGS) Centers : Alternative schools in unserved habitations where there is no formal school within the radius of 1 kilometer and at least 15-25 children of 6-14 years age group who are not going to schools are available. Alternative and Innovative Education (AIE) Centers. The centers set up for very specific, difficult groups of ‘out of school’ children for mainstreaming or otherwise, under the AIE component of the EGS&AIE scheme, are termed as Alternative & Innovative Education Centers.
