What is meant by brittleness? Please give proper definition.

Explanation:

Brittleness is the property of the material by virtue of which it breaks without significant plastic deformation, when subjected to stress. Brittle material absorbs relatively less energy prior to failure. These are weak in tension but very much strong in compression load.
