Celluloid is a tough, flexible, and moldable materialwhich is resistant to water, oils, and dilute acids. Celluloid is the synthetic plastic material, developed from a homogeneous colloidal dispersion of two components called nitrocellulose and camphor. It is possible to use it for low-cost production in a variety of colours. Celluloid is a type of plastic that’s transparent and flammable. recently, most movies were filmed on celluloid. Rather than movies, celluloid is also used in shooting x-rays.

Any substitute would have to be light, tough, flexible, unaffected by water (or) chemicals and, of course, transparent , better known as celluloid.
