Heya mate........

Corrosion is a natural process that converts a refined metal into a more chemically-stable form such as oxide, hydroxide, or sulfide. It is the gradual destruction of materials (usually a metal) by chemical and/or electrochemical reaction with their environment.

Hope this will help you.....

➢ Corrosion

  • Corrosion refers to the process of (including metal and non-metal ) loss and damage caused by the surrounding medium (water, air, acid, alkali, salt, solvent, etc.).

Corrosion originally a chemical term, referring to a change in the interaction between a substance and the environment and losing its original properties. It can be extended to rot, disappear, and erode.

➢ Metal mechanism

Metal corrosion refers to the destruction of metals under the action of chemical or electrochemical effects in the surrounding medium , and often under the combined action of physical, mechanical or biological factors. According to the course of the corrosion process, metal corrosion can be generally divided into two categories, namely chemical corrosion and electrochemical corrosion .

➢ Chemical corrosion

Corrosion caused by the chemical action of metals in dry gases and non-electrolyte solutions is called chemical corrosion. The products of chemical corrosion exist on the surface of the metal, and no current is generated during the corrosion process.

If the compound produced by chemical corrosion is very stable, that is, it is not easy to volatilize and dissolve, and the organization is dense, and the metal matrix is firmly bonded, then this layer of corrosion products is attached to the metal surface, which can protect the metal matrix and passivate The effect of corrosion is called " passivation ".

If the compound produced by chemical corrosion is unstable, that is, it is volatile or dissolved, or the bond with the metal is not strong, the corrosion products will fall off layer by layer ( such as oxide scale ), this corrosion product cannot protect the metal from Continued corrosion, this effect is called " activation ".
