Most big cities offered manufacturing jobs and the safety of numbers. As the time went on into the 1950’s roads were improving and the automobile was becoming more dependable. One could buy a piece of land outside the city limits at a more affordable cost and the taxes and insurance at a lesser price. As inner-city crime grew, the rural areas looked even better. America as a society has always weighed the city life against the rural life in some extent. As corruption continues to grow in the larger metropolitan areas, you will see even more de-urbanization.
