The spiltting of white light into seven colour,i.e. violet,indigo,blue,green,yellow,orange,red(VIBGYOR) is called dispersion of light.

ex .. after rainfall you see rainbow because of dispersion of light .In that case the water droplet work as prism which help to spilt light.
