The definition of Disproportionation in chemistry is that one substance simultaneously gets oxidised as well as reduced.

Example:

2 H₃PO₂ -----------> H₃PO₄ + PH₃

In the above reaction, the oxidation state of Phosphorus in H₃PO₂ ( Hypo Phosphorus acid) is +1.

It gets oxidised by converting into H₃PO₄ (Phosphoric acid), where the oxidation state of 'P' is +5.

It gets reduced by converting into PH₃ (Phosphine), where the oxidation state of 'P' is -3.

Hope it helps!!

Here is your answer

the reaction in which same element undergoes both oxidation and reduction is called disproportionation reaction

Ex: 2 H2O2---------»2 H20 +O2
