What is meant by dissent?

If a law goes against the interests of a group of people, then that group will protest to express it's dissatisfaction, this is known as dissent.

Examples are- Peaceful marches, Non-cooperation​, violent protests etc.

Dissent means dispute or argument against something.To differ in sentiment or opinion, especially from the majority.
Example: Two of the justices dissented from the majority decision.
