Dominant has many meanings like ...

1. The fifth major tone of a musical scale (five major steps above the note in question); thus G is the dominant of C, A of D, and so on.
2. The triad built on the dominant tone.
3. A gene that is dominant.
4. A species or organism that is dominant.
5 .The dominating partner in sad I masochistic special activity.

And recessive also have meanings...

1. Going back; receding.
2. Able to be masked by a dominant allele or trait.
3. Not dominant; whose effect is masked by stronger effects.
