Derivation :-

R (resistance) is inversely proportional to A (area)

R is directly proportional to 1/A ---(1)

R is directly proportional to L (length of the conductor)---(2)

From 1 and 2

R ∝ L/A

Therefore,

R= p(rho) x L/A

p(rho) = R x A/L

(Where rho (p) is the constant of proportionality or the resistivity of a particular material)
