Electromagnetic or magnetic induction is the production of an electromotive force across an electrical conductor in a changing magnetic field. Michael Faraday is generally credited with the discovery of induction in 1831, and James Clerk Maxwell mathematically described it as Faraday's law of induction

It is described on the basis of the experiment carried out by Faraday and Henry as the phenomenon of generating electrical current in a conductor by moving it perpendicular to a magnetic field and vice versa is called electromagnetic induction.
The current so generated is called induced current in the conductor. So generated electromotive force is called induced EMF.
The electromagnetic induction is in contrast to the action of the electric motor.
