What is meant by ‘Food for Work’ programme?

Food for work is a scheme initiated by the government of India. In this scheme food is given instead of wages , to the workers. This scheme applies for the poor working class (manual labourers n all) . This was to ensure good and healthy food to those who could not afford it otherwise ( as govt. gives this food at subsidized rates and due to other reasons like men beating up women and snatching their incomes for liquor or gambling ( it's common in rural and poor communities))
