• Seed germination is defined as the sum of events that begin with hydration of the seed and culminate in emergence of the embryonic axis (usually the radicle) from the seed coat. From: Plant Growth and Development: Hormones and Environment, 2002.

CONDITIONS NECESSARY FOR GERMENATION OF SEED:

only living seeds can germinate which require optimum conditions for moisture ,oxygen and temperature.

SOME OF WATER (MOISTURE):

water is essential for life.dried seed have hard seed coat which become soft by water.cotyledon and endosperm absorb water by imbibition become swollen and exert pressure on seed coat in this way embryo comes out to grow .enzymes become activated by water and solid reserve good changes into solution.

ROLE OF OXYGEN:

oxygen is essential for respiration during which energy is liberated from food molecules. this energy is must for physiological processes including seed germination.

TEMPERATURE:

for proper functioning of enzymes a certain range of temperature is necessary. most seeds require a suitable temperature ranging from 25C to 37C .dress do not terminate at temperature below OC or above 45C.
