Answer:

The earth radiates whatever heat it recieves from the sun into the sky. The green house gases such as carbon dioxide , methane , choloro fluro carbon traps the heat reflected by the earth into the sky and thus maintain a constant surface temperature . This mechanism is known as Green house effect.
