<b><h2>Heterolytic Cleavage</b></h2>

When a covalent bond joining two atoms A and B breaks in such a way that both the electrons of the covalent bond ( i.e., shared pair ) are taken away by one of the bonded atoms, the mode of bond cleavage is called Heterolytic Cleavage.

<b><h3>Examples –</b></h3>

( a ) \tt{CH_3 - SCH_3}

{ See the 1st Attachment }

( °•° S being bigger in size than C can displace the -ve charge more effectively. )

( b ) \tt{CH_3 - CN}

{ See the 2nd Attachment }

( °•° CN is more electronegative than \sf{CH_3} )

( c ) \tt{Cu - CH_3}

{ See the 3rd Attachment }

( °•° Cu is more electronegative than C )
