the word troph means - nutrition
the organisms that have heterotrophic mode of nutrition, depend upon plants directly or indirectly for food.
eg: all animals including us, fungi, etc
Like some non- green plants with less or no chlorophyll can't produce food with water and sunlight and depend upon some other plants and trees.
These organisms which cannot make their own food and depend upon others are called as HETEROTROPHS..
