Electron gain enthalpy is the amount of energy associated with the acceptance of electron by an atom. ... But if the electron gain enthalpy isnegative then it means that energy is released by the atom while taking in the electron.

electron gain enthalpy is the energy required for an atom to gain one electron
if the energy is highly negative..
it means the atom is more likely to gain a electron rather than losing it
and highly negative electron gain enthalpy can be exampled by fluorine and chlorine which readily accepts electrons rather than losing one...
