DEFINITION OF HOMEOSTASIS

Homeostasis is a Greek word in which 'homeo' means same and 'stasis' means steady.

  1. It refers to any process that living things use to actively maintain fairly stable conditions necessary for survival.
  2. In human body, Homeostasis is the tendency to resist change in order to maintain a stable, relatively constant internal environment.
  3. Homeostasis is important to human body because conditions in the body must be constantly controlled because cells depends on body's environment to live and function

EXAMPLES

  1. Shivering in winter and sweating in summer.
  2. Excretion of toxins through urine.
  3. Insulin secretion in our body to regulate glucose levels.
  4. Exhalation of more or less carbon dioxide out of diaphragm to maintain pH amount in body.
