Hydrogenation is basically conversion of vegetable oil into vegetable 'ghee'. Addition reaction is involved in this process. Vegetable oil is unsaturated hydrocarbon which is converted to vegetable ghee which is saturated hydrocarbon in presence of Nickel catalyst.
