Ionization enthalpy is the amount of energy required to remove most loosely bound electron from an isolated gaseous atom of element to form positive gaseous ion in it's ground state. Ionization enthalpy increases from left to right in the period and decreases from top to bottom in the group. Example:- Li- 520 kJ/mol, Na- 496kJ/mol, K- 419kJ/mol (of the group) and Li- 520kJ/mol, Be- 899 kJ/mol, B- 801kJ/mol, C- 1086kJ/mol (of the period)

the minimum amount of   energy needed to remove an electron from an atom or molecule in its gaseous state  is called as ionization energy.
example---boron(B)=8.3
