The layout or arrangement of the uses of the land is known as “land use pattern”. The land may be used for agriculture, forest, pasture etc. Land use is determined by many factors like relief features, climate, soil, density of population, technical and socio-economic factors.

It is important to study the land use pattern to make judicious use of resources that are available to us. Thus this is the part of resource planning. It allows us to plan the cropping pattern. It allows us to use different types of fertilizers.

The use of land is determined both by physical factors such as topography, climate, soil types as well as human factors such as population density, technological capability and culture and traditions
