In the inheritance of more than one pair of traits in a cross the factors responsible for each pair of traits are distributed independently to the gametes.

Mendel's dihybrid cross is an example for this.

Law of independent is one of the laws of inheritance postulated by mendel based on dihybrid cross.

this law states that when two or more characters are inherited from the parent to the offspring, during the Gamete production, the genes for each trait seperate from one another and assort independently to the Gamete, giving each trait a chance of occurring together.
