a square divided into smaller squares each containing a number, such that the figures in each vertical, horizontal, and diagonal row add up to the same value.

A square filled with numbers so that the total of each row, each column and each main diagonal are all the same.

In this example, each row, column and main diagonal add up to 15

The squares can be 3×3, 4×4 and larger.

magic square is a square in which

the sum of all cells in a row = sum of all cells in a column = sum of all cells diagonally.

1           2           3

4          5           6

7          8            9

1+2+3 = 4+5+6=7+8+9=1+4+7=2+5+8=3+6+9=7+5+3=1+5+9
