Monosporie development of female gametophyte:
- Megasporogenesis is the growth and development of the gametophyte into megaspore.
- When the female gametophyte (embryo sac) develops from one or a single megaspore, such sort of development is called Monosporic development.
- Generally, in most of the Angiosperm species, the megaspore mother cell then further divides into f"our haploid megaspores arranged in a linear organisation" through the process of Meiosis.
- Out of these "four haploid megaspores", three haploid megaspores degenerate while one remains functional and develops into a female gametophyte.
