Motivation is an internal process that makes a person move toward a goal. Instead, motivation can only be inferred by noting a person's behavior. Researchers have proposed theories that try to explain human motivation. These theories include drive reduction theories and Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory.

Motivation is the desire or willingness to do something and the drive for motivation could be self or through an external source.

Explanation:

There are three techniques of motivation that help in achieving goals in sports and they are: a) Motivation through fear, b) Motivation through gifts, and c) Motivation through purpose.

a) Motivation through fear: Though it is easy to instill fear in someone is easy, it can be turned into disloyalty and resentment. Also, fear can lead to making many mistakes, losing position, and become stressful which in turn will lead to disloyalty and resentment.

b) Motivation through gifts: This technique can work for a short term and it serves as a strong motivator; however, the need for incentives increases as time passes and the motivation dwindles.

c) Motivation through purpose: This technique is the most effective which establishes long-term motivation. It helps in personal growth and self motivation which does not require an external factor all the time.
