The cell holds higher solute and lowers water concentration. When cells are put in such a solvent, water enters inside the cells. There are two types of osmosis. Exosmosis and endosmosis. Exosmosis is the flow of water out of a cell when it is placed in a hypertonic solution.  Endosmosis is the flow of water to the cell when the cell is inside a hypotonic solution.
