The word Paramanu is a combination of Param, meaning beyond, and anu meaning atom. Thus the term Paramanu is suggestive of the possibility that, at least at an abstract level, the Rishi's had conceived the possibility of splitting an atom which is the source of atomic energy. This concept of the atom was developed by Rishi Kanada in 600 B.C
