The unfertilized ovum when discharges along with ruptured blood vessels can be termed as menstruation or periods.....

Periods are the flow of blood from the ovaries if the egg is not fertilised by a sperm. and the periods first starts when a girl becomes mature at the age of 12-14 years. it is also called as mensuration which flows every month till the age of 45-50 years.
