Members of phycomycetes are found in aquatic habitats and on decaying wood in moist and damp places or as obligate parasites on plants. The mycelium is aseptate and coenocyte.

Asexual reproduction takes place by zoospores or by aplanospores.

Such common examples are Mucor, rhizopus and albugo.

Answer:

Phycomycetes is an obsolete polyphyletictaxon for certain fungi. They are called algal fungi because they bear a striking resemblence to some of the algae in morphology of the thallus and sex organs. The lower fungi include the simplest member of true fungi.
