During electrolysis, ions which are formed will get discharged  to form neutral atoms at the electrodes...preferential means that in case of more than one kind of cations and anions in the electrolyte, the one with higher concentration or at a lower position in activity series will get discharged  first.

ANSWER-》》

If the electrolyte contain more than one type of cation or anion.the cation and anion which are discharged preferentially at the respective electrodes depend upon:-

1-)Position of the ion in the electrochemical series.

2-)Concentration of the ion in the solution.

3-)Nature of the material of the electrode.

hope it helps you out.
