Explanation:

Proto Industrialisation

Proto-industrialisation is the phase of industrialisation that was not based on the factory system. Before the coming of factories, there was large-scale industrial production for an international market. This is known as proto-industrialisation.

Economic Effect

  1. Proto -industrialisation was a decentralized System of production. Merchants were based on towns but the work was done mostly in the countryside.
  2. It was a system which was controlled by the merchants and the goods for produced by a vast number of producers working within their family farms. The peasants and farmers started working for the merchants.
  3. At this time open fields were disappearing and the poor farmers were looking to new avenues of livelihood. Merchants offered advances to produce goods to them which the peasants eagerly accepted.
  4. They could stay in the countryside and continue to cultivate their small lands. Proto-industralisation added to their shrinking income.

Answer:

1. Even before factories began to dot the landscape in England and Europe there was large scale industrial production for an international market which was not based on factories. This phase of industrialization is known as proto-industrialization.

2. Merchants from the town in Europe began moving to the countryside, supplying money to peasants and artisans, persuading them to produce for an international market.

3. With the expansion of world trade and the acquisition of colonies in different parts of the world, the demand for goods began to increase.

4. But merchants could not expand production with in towns. This was because; here urban crafts and trade guilds were powerful.

5. In the countryside poor peasants and artisans began working for merchants. This was a time when open field were disappearing and commons were being enclosed.
