Pythagoras Theorem is used for right angled triangle to explain the relation of its sides. This theorem is also known as the Pythagorean Theorem.
The Pythagorean Theorem is ⇒ Base² + Height² = Hypotenuse²
Hypotenuse is the longest side in the right angle triangle.
We have a formula to find the base, height and hypotenuse of the triangle respectively.
- Base → 2m
- Height → m² - 1
- Hypotenuse → m² + 1
Now to find if a triangle is a right angled triangle we can use this theorem. For example we are given with the measures of the sides of a triangle as 10 cm, 24 cm and 26 cm
Now we have to find if the given is a right angled triangle or not. To do so we know that the hypotenuse would be 26 since the hypotenuse is the longest side.
For now we'll consider 10 cm as the base and 24 cm as the height.
The Pythagorean Theorem is ⇒ Base² + Height² = Hypotenuse²
⇒ (10)² + (24)² = (26)²
Now we have to make sure that the LHS = RHS
⇒ (10)² + (24)² = (26)²
⇒ 100 + 576 = 676
⇒ 676 = 676
∴ The above is a right angled triangle.
