Petroleum refining processes are the chemical engineering processes and other facilities used in petroleum refineries (also referred to as oil refineries) to transform crude oil into useful products such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), gasoline or petrol, kerosene, jet fuel, diesel oil and fuel oils.

The products obtained from petroleum are

(1) Gasoline-46%

Gasoline is used to fuel internal combustion engines for cars, motorbikes, trucks.

(2) Diesel Fuel-20%

Diesel fuel used in US military tanks and in trucks because it is less inflammable and less explosive than others.

(3) Kerosene- 8%

Mainly used as a fuel for household purposes.

(4) Petroleum coke-2%

It is used in electric power plants and cement kilns.
