Potential difference between two points is said to be one volt if one joule of work is done to move one coulomb of charge from one point to other point, i.e.,
1volt(V)=1joule(J)/1coulomb(C)
or
1V=1JC^-1
1volt(V)=1joule(J)/1coulomb(C)
or
1V=1JC^-1
