i) space debris includes non functional parts of satellites, detached parts of the launcher, pieces due to collision of satellites, etc. that revolve around the earth.

ii) in 2016, it was estimated that there are about 2 crore pieces of length more than 1 cm, revolving around the earth

iii) this debris can be harmful to artificial satellites. they can collide with other satellites or space crafts and damage them.

iv) soon it will be very difficult to launch new space crafts.

v) hence, there is a need to manage space debris.
