Surface tension is the elastic tendency of a fluid surface which makes it acquire the least surface area possible. Surface tension allows insects, usually denser than water, to float and stride on a water surface.

Hey dear,

● Surface activity -
- Ot is the property possessed by certain solid substances to influence the surface tension of liquids.
- A substance which reduces the surface tension of the medium dissolved is called surfactant.
- For example, soaps, detergents, quaternary ammonium salts, etc.
- Surface activity of detergents should be attributed to presence of hydrophilic & hydrophobic group in them.
