Definition:Strong heating of wood at high temperature in the absence of air.Because of this condition a back residue is obtained.
Application:This process is used for many things like for the preparation of Coke.

anaerobic thermal degradation of wood means the slow conversion of wood into coal under the effects of high pressure, high temperature and an anaerobic bacteria. This process is also called carbonisation.

This process occurs deep inside the earth.
