atomic number (Z) of an element's is the number of protons in an atom of the element. ( number of protons is equal to number of electrons in a neutral atom)

The number of Protons in the nucleus of an atom ia termed as atomic number.

But no.of protons and electrons in an atom is same.Though electron mass is very small compared to proton so in defintion we just say atomic number is the no. of protons.
