Answer: Cilia are the protoplasmic

extension of cells.

Cells are modified for various purposes like it is found in trachea where it prevents the entry of microbial organism, whereas when they are found in fallopian tube they conceive ovums.

Cilia- It is a modification of plasma membrane of free end in which long cylindrical process occurs of which the diameter from base to the peak is same.

• It is also known as Kinocilia.

• It is motile means it motion is possible in it.

• It contractile means it can produce contraction.

Functions-

It helps in movement as well as in locomotion.

Movement occurs in uniform direction.

Particle or mucous moves in a fixed direction over the Epithelium.

• Help in conduction of cerebralspinal fluid.

Examples- Inner surface of hollow organs like in bronchioles and fallopian tube, Uterus, Trachea, in the inner lining of brain cavity etc.
