What is meant by the Disease Leprosy? In the poem On Killing a Tree (CBSE CLASS 9 ENGLISH BOOK BEEHIVE POEM), why has the poet used the word Leprous Hide for the bark of the tree?

"Leprosy"

→ It is a type of chronic disease , which affects the skin and damages the nerve.

→ patches are formed on our skin.

→ it is caused by a bacteria , namely Mycobacterium leprae.

Poet has used the word Leprous Hide for the bark of the tree because the tree bark is compared here with the disease of human ; like human have patches on their skin when they are suffering from Leprosy , in the same way trees too have patches on their bark .

'Leprous hide' means discolored bark.
